The Liminal Space Theme Park of North America

What has become of the theme park I used to frequent as a kid in the early 2000s?

For those of you who are not familiar with Marineland, it’s a world-renowned theme park in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, owned by the Marineland Corporation. The park features a variety of marine animals, including dolphins, killer whales, beluga whales, and sea lions. In addition to the majestic sea creatures held within its gates, Marineland also boasts an impressive array of rides, including the Dragon Mountain roller coaster. Marineland was one of the first marine parks in the world and has been open since 1961. At its prime, the park attracted over 1.4 million visitors each year. It has been called “the biggest and best aquarium in the world”. But how long ago was that title awarded, and how does that title hold up today?

Despite living in Toronto for the majority of my life, I haven’t been back to this park since the early 2000s. I think the last time I was there might have been when I was 10 years old, back in 2004. Since then, I haven’t heard much about it. Wonderland was more the theme park to be at for those living close to Toronto anyway.
