The Introverted Memory Stores of Each MBTI Type
With firsthand accounts from INTJ
Special thanks to two anonymous INTJs for sharing their experiences in this post.
Internally Storing the Logical Steps to a Conclusion
Using the introverted thinking and feeling (T/F) functions (i.e. Ti or Fi) is akin to having a series of files in a folder you can open at any time and know exactly every step of the logic or feeling based process of coming to your conclusions.
When using the extroverted thinking and feeling functions (i.e. Te or Fe), your mind is similar to a black box that can never remember any of the steps and has to constantly redo the whole process again every time new information comes in.
To put it simply, information about the process of coming to a conclusion is not stored internally or committed to memory for Te or Fe users like it is for Ti or Fi users.
Example: INTJ
The first two functions of an INTJ are Ni (Introverted Intuition) and Te (Extroverted Thinking). There is no internal feeling or thinking among the INTJ’s most-used functions. But there is Te (Extroverted Thinking). So, when it comes to logic, INTJ only store the conclusions of the logical steps they took to make a decision or solve a problem, which is the equivalent of a small text file with a list of simple axioms — AKA think of it like a text file with Ni (Introverted Intuition) analyses’ conclusions, and each axiom being a simple statement of fundamental truth.
Example: ENTP
The first two functions of an ENTP are Ne (Extroverted Intuition) and Ti (Introverted Thinking). There is internal thinking among the ENTP’s most-used functions. So, when it comes to logic, ENTP can open a folder in their head with every logical step at the “click of a button” without needing to redo and externalize the whole process.
Example: INFP
The first two functions of an INFP are Fi (Introverted Feeling) and Ne (Extroverted Intuition). There is internal feeling among the INFP’s most-used functions. So, when it comes to feelings and emotions, INFP can easily access any feeling they’ve ever felt paired with…
