Spider-Man: No Way Home MBTI Types
What Myers-Briggs types are the 3 Spiderman characters under their mask?
Spider-man: No way Home was a fun movie. I highly recommend watching it if you haven’t seen it already (but don’t worry, I made sure to write this post without any spoilers, just in case). I saw the film in theaters when it first came out and it did not disappoint. It contains tons of great humor and character insight, as well as all the great aspects of superhero movies. It’s also unique, even though it contains many of the classic characters. I am not usually a huge fan of superhero movies in general — though I do admit certain ones are a fun watch — but this one was probably among my top few favorites. As I was sitting in the theater, I thought about the three Spiderman characters and about the MBTI personas each of them display under their masks.
Toby McGuire — INFP
Toby’s Spiderman is the only one of the three who is not a self-made scientist superhero. The other two tinker with their costumes and powers and work to improve their webs in labs. But Toby doesn’t do this. He’s the only one out of the three who has his powers “naturally” — just by having been bit by the spider. In the movie, the two others even ask him how his powers work and he is unable to answer because he just has them and they “come from inside” (this is a very INFP thing to say). The two others have manufactured devices to shoot out webs, while the INFP just goes with what he naturally has.
Toby’s laid-back attitude and his role of mediator and peacemaker in the film (as well as what Garfield calls his “hip youth pastor look”) is very much in line with the INFP idea of employing sympathetic harmony to make peace when tapping into personal Fi values. His story is also one of the prime INFP hero’s journey archetypes. He is the OG Spiderman, and so, he just is.
Andrew Garfield — ENTP
Andrew’s Spiderman is similar to Tony Stark’s Ironman in many ways (who is also ENTP). He works in a lab and tinkers with different things to constantly improve his powers. He struggles to be in touch with his emotions, as suggested in the movie. So, when he has a breakthrough emotional moment in a certain scene, it’s a big moment for his…
