A History of Hungary in 3 Minutes or Less
The heart of Central Eastern Europe
Hungary is a fascinating country with a long and rich history. Situated in Central Europe, Hungary has been ruled by a variety of empires over the centuries, including the Romans, the Byzantines, the Mongols, and the Turks.

In 1848–49, Hungary attempted to gain independence from Austria, but ultimately failed. After World War I, Hungary lost a significant amount of territory to its neighbors.

In 1944, Hungary was occupied by Nazi Germany, and in 1945 it became a communist state.

The Hungarian Revolution of 1956 was crushed by the Soviet Union. In 1989, Hungary again attempted to break free from communist rule, and this time was successful. Since then, Hungary has been a democracy.

Hungary is a beautiful country with a lot to offer tourists. The capital city, Budapest, is especially popular, with its many historic sights and attractions.
Other popular destinations include Lake Balaton, the Hungarian countryside, and the thermal baths.
Hungary is also known for its delicious food, which includes traditional dishes such as goulash and paprika chicken. Hungarian wine is also excellent.
